Day 70/365

Another break from the word today. I am on my own in the house tonight, for the first time in years. Brenda is out and my parents have gone away. I slept all afternoon, woke up, have been reading and now made myself a nice supper of grilled steak, cheese and mushroom sauce and salad.

Today's word was fuzzy, and while I had a few ideas, I have deviated from the theme. We have a non-smoking policy at work. This afternoon my colleague Rox came running through my office, jumped up on the chair, opened the window, pulled out a cigarette and leant out the window! I was shocked, thinking she was going to smoke out the window, lol. (I preferred not to think she was going to jump) Only to discover she was actually throwing the box out the window to another colleague who had left them behind. A make up bag, and then handbag followed soon afterwards. I am happy to report that nothing was broken, or blew away. To put it in perspective, our office is built on a hill, so even though we are on the ground floor, the height at the back is about 1 and a half storeys high! So here is a picture of Roxanne the mad hanging out my window. She was actually on the window ledge at one stage, but I missed that.

Now, I am not normally a bath person, particularly in summer when I always feel hotter after the bath than I did before. I would say more than 90% of the time I have a shower. But, since the weather has been miserable the last week, still relatively warm, but with galeforce winds and lots of rain I have been feeling like a bath. But, what is a bath without bubbles? So, here are the bubbles that I bought yesterday!

Today's picture is my work floor, which looks very dull. However, this prompt was perfect today since this is the first time in months there have not been boxes stacked all over the office - mainly because the "big boss" is coming for a meeting on Friday. I am sure it will go back to normal soon!

Todays prompt was inside your handbag. Well, what a revelation, lol. This is exactly what I took out of my bag, nothing left out at all. I usually clean it every few months and thought it was relatively empty, until I did this. So here is my hall of shame.

• lots and lots of paper, including a couple of payslips and my South African Nursing Council registration. I do have a good filing system dont I :-)

• lid for a container from Gateway Hotel which I have never been to, who knows where that came from

• a sweet that we were given at church on Christmas Day (!)
• the orange container contains my cereal that I didn't have this morning and a rusk that was also supposed to be part of my lunch, uneaten because I did not get a chance to have anything until 3pm when I went to Wimpy instead.
• 2 sample tubs of Bennets Baby bum cream, another mystery
• sweeteners
• keys
• mobile-phone sock (phone is charging)
• box of matches
• lots of coins
• golf ball - mystery number 3. Don't play golf or know anyone who does well enough to have a ball
• 8 pens and 1 pencil, now we know why I can never find any
• earphones for the Nokia phone I havent had for 2 years

Apart from the book (taken today because I thought I might have a bit of waiting around, no such luck) these things all normally live in my bag. I also usually have a purse and phone in there. The papers and the container lid have been binned, but everything else has gone back.

Catch up:
I am having a bit of a problem with my phone at the moment. The trackpad on my blackberry keeps freezing, so battling to transfer some photos over which is one of the reasons I have been behind. Any suggestions on how to sort it out will be appreciated. I don't really want to spend money on it since I am due for an upgrade in July. I have left space and will add them when I have sorted the phone out or made some other plan.

I didn't go with the prompt, but took a photo of the chair that our graduating year donated to my old school. A couple of years ago the school wanted to replace all the chairs in the hall. They asked all the Old-girls to sponsor a chair or part of a chair. At our re-union we collected money for 3 chairs. My daughter is now at my old school, and last night at the school concert I happened to be sitting behind the one of thechair that we donated.

Once again, off topic. In our house you have to be careful of what you close up since our cat sleeps in the oddest places, here she is asleep in Brenda's school bag.

Day 43
This picture hung on my grandparents wall and now belongs to my parents. It is a set of 4 entitled The First steeplechase on record, although my mum thinks there may have been 6 to start off with.

Yesterday's word was FENCE. Well, I couldn't find any interesting looking fences, so I took a picture of our wall instead.

Todays word was compact. Now, I spent the entire day searching for inspiration for this one. I couldn't think of anything. I was just about to give up and use another one when I went to collect my university coursework.

So here is my compact pack of what will be some very hard work! It might look small but I can assure you it was heavy carrying it around the shops.

Well what a day today has been. It started off at 3am with me waking up to a huge rainstorm (!) Brenda woke up about 10 minutes later and said
"Mum we have a leak"
Turns out it wasn't a rainstorm, but the geyser had burst and the water was pouring into the passage!

So, we spent the next hour putting out plastic, buckets and moving things out the way, of course, being the geyser it was all HOT water, not pleasant. It is all over the main bedroom, passage, spare bathroom and my bedroom.

Then, Brenda who has been vomiting all weekend woke up in the morning with a headache. So, I decided to take her to casualty instead of the GP as I had planned. Good thing I did because she ended up spending 4 hours there having an IV and medication. Dropped her at home and then had to rush off to an appointment with the bank! Now, I am at home and ready to collapse. Unfortunately I have an assignment to finish, and supper to cook.

So, I have deviated from the word today to show you a picture of Brenda leaving casualty in a wheelchair. I thought this was overkill but she was thrilled with the idea!

Day 34 - interaction
I had a lovely chat with a friend who I haven't chatted to for a while - on whatsapp.

This was the first picture I got when I tried to take it. I love the way the screen looks like it is floating.

Day 35 - Liquid

Unfortunately due to extreme wind and overcast conditions I haven't taken a picture of liquid today. And, in truth this book has kept me very busy today anyway.

Day 31
DD is a real nature lover. She loves animals of all shapes and sizes, and can't bear to see them hurt. She also likes all sorts of creepy-crawlies and is always bringing them inside. If she sees any hurt/lost animal she always has to help it. Amazingly, they seem to trust her and allow her to pick them up. Yesterday was the first time though that she managed to catch a baby gecko. Unfortunately he didn't sit still long enough for me to catch a good photo though!

Day 32

Brenda's first visit to Wakaberry - the place to "see and be seen" for the tweenie/early teen crowd here in the area. She has been begging to be allowed to go, but things kept getting in the way. Anyway, today we eventually went, although I know she would prefer to go without me. In my defense, I did volunteer to leave her there and come back, but I think she was too shy to go in on her own. I also discovered that during the week at least it seems to be popular with everyone. It is a frozen yoghurt place where you choose/pour your own yoghurt and toppings. It is charged by weight, which can be dangerous.

Catching up again. I have been taking the photos, but not had much chance to post. My internet is playing up too, so I am not able to surf much either.

Day 27 - amazing
This is one of the most amazing views that I have ever seen. Unfortunately when I took the photo it was a little bit too dark to get the full beauty.

Day 28 - Fluffy

Ok, this one I guess you will have to use lateral thinking. But here is a picture of my delicious McFlurry. I am not usually a fan of Sundae type ice-cream, but occasionally get the urge. Saturday I craved a McFlurry, and when I got there I discovered they now do a Cornetto version. (I am probably a bit delayed I know) I just could not resist, and it was worth it!

Day 29 - Kitchen utensil

This picture is actually a re-do taken today. When I uploaded the photos I discovered that all of yesterdays were a bit blurry, so had to take it again. This is a picture of my Shogun Whizz which I got from Brenda for Christmas. I have used it twice, once to whip cream on Christmas day. The cream turned into butter since it didnt seem to work and I just kept whizzing. I also used it to make cappucino and the froth came out beautifully!

Day 29 - collection of things

This is my collection of pens on my desk at work. Now, I know it may look like I have quite a few, but if I am looking for a black pen, I can assure you there is never one there. When I am looking for a red the same thing happens lol. It always reminds me of the saying: Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink.

Only 1 more day and the first month of this challenge will be over. It is a miracle that I am actually keeping up so far!

We have a farewell at work tomorrow, so I had to pop to the shops after work. (I normally hate going when I am rushed). This was the state of the queue - motionless! I got to the till at 15 to 6, they were closing at 6. There were about 10 people in front of me, but only 2 tills open. I was eventually served at 6:30. Unfortunately it was either wait or be back there before work tomorrow.

Now, a bonus picture. I am not sure about other countries, but here in South Africa at the end of the school day all children put their chairs up on their desks, this is in order to make it easier for the cleaners to sweep. Being at the shops 30 minutes after closing time, I was tickled pink to see they do it at the shops too!

Catch up - day 23 and 24

I knew that I might battle a bit with keeping up once work starts in earnest and sure enough, I didn't get a chance to post last night. Work has been very busy and with Brenda's homework, sports etc life is hectic once again!
Day 23 was hot and I chose to show you my cup of coffee. Now, no matter how hot the weather is there are 2 cups that I have to have each day. One when I wake up in the morning to wake me up, and one when I come home from work to relax me :-) I used to be a tea drinker, but since starting my current work, my close colleague drinks coffee only and she rubbed off on me. She has since left, but I still drink coffee. I do like tea still, but coffee has become a habit now.

Day 24's challenge was to take a picture of something in motion. I have taken a picture of my ceiling fan, which is going full blast at the moment. The only thing is......it made me realise how dusty it is, lol.

My "naughty" photo is of one of the monkeys that regularly visits our house and trashes the kitchen. Yesterday they broke in through the dining room, got into the kitchen, threw the coffee, hot chocolate and oats all over the straw, stole the sugar basin and managed to relieve themselves on MY CAMERA which was on a shelf. Fortunately it still works, but I had to drench it in air freshner to get rid of the smell!

I am so pleased with this picture because it is very hard to get a photo of the babies since the mothers are VERY protective!

(PS My naughtiness is that this particular photo was not taken today. I did take one, but for some reason my email on my phone is not working and I am battling to upload from my camera. I will try and sort it out tomorrow and replace it._)

I am once again off topic. I couldn't really think of anything for generous, maybe because I had such a hot, busy day. Todays picture shows what I have been doing today which is trying to repair Brenda's dictionaries. So, here is what 4 years of primary school do to a dictionary! This picture is half way through the repairing and doesnt actually do justice to the horror of what they looked like.
