Fairy house and a Question

A few weeks ago I made one of these little houses for Brenda. She had asked for a Halloween one, but I didnt have any Halloween stash left, so made her a fairy one instead. The paper was some Easter paper that I had in my stash and then pink bazill which I dry brushed blue for the roof. The stamps were all from a set I got free from a magazine a few months ago and the Beauty is a rub on I have had in my stash for ages. I added the beads to make it a bit more girly, as if it needed it!

And now for the question! When I posted the last house on a forum I belong to, some one asked me what the purpose of it was. I was a bit taken aback, lol, (she is a crafter). I dont really like lots of little bits lying around. My house is untidy enough without dust collectors, which is what has put me off making lots of mini books for myself, but these I thought would look nice either on the window sill or stuck to the wall in my crafting area. I enjoy the process of crafting as well as what comes out at the end if you know what I mean. Anyway, here is my question for you. Do you always make something for a purpose, or do you sometimes just make things for the fun of it?

  1. I made an exploding box with pictures once. I loved it. Now it is a dust harbourer !! I always want to create gorgeous things but try and make them functional rather than just for decoration. Although Im hoping to have a shadow box in my house to showcase the odd scrapbook page now and then! Cute houses! Very girly!

  2. Mostly I have a purpose for what I make. There is so much clutter in my house. I had to open an etsy shop as an excuse purpose for making things

  3. I would say that less than half of my creations have a purpose, but I do have a good storage system! LOL! I have actually started a semi-regular series on my blog called "What do you plan for it?" which addresses the question of what we do with our art.
The Fairy house is really, really cute, BTW, and I think making something for your daughter is purpose enough. Even if she doesn't remember the specifics, she'll remember, Mum used to make me lovely little crafty things . . .

  4. Nearly everything I make is just for the fun of it(unless you count the Father Christmas suit I had to sew a couple of years ago!). I just love creating, then I work out what I'm going to do with it.

  5. Mostly I make for the fun of it - actually all I make is for the fun of it! The house is lovely and even if I didn't have anywhere to put it I would have it (or make it) just because it is lovely :)
